Our Team

This page is dedicated to our past and present employees whose dedication, commitment, hard work and overall contribution have made our farm possible. Each one has left their mark on our business and our lives.  All of the volunteers and employees who have contributed to our farm since we began have been great people, no exceptions.

The Current Team

Kent Coates – Farm Owner

Week 45 - Kent harvesting cabbage in Jolicure; it is definitely getting colder

I spent 12 years in the Navy and in 2006, as the Head of the Marine Systems Engineering Department in HMCS FREDERICTON, I decided that with a young family and lots of energy it was time to farm the land we had purchased four years earlier.  During my time in the Navy I had two main hobbies: first, I took every opportunity to learn about agriculture and farm businesses and second, athletics including cycling, triathlons and later white water canoeing.  While I raced at two world championships and a world games, I find my business takes just as much energy and comes with a lot more challenges.  The challenges can be rewarding and I take great satisfaction in developing environmentally sound crop rotations and farm practices while growing great tasting food.  “Putting things away for the winter” is another satisfying part of my work, firewood stored and storage crops safely “in” for the winter leaves a great sense of accomplishment.  I also like to challenge myself with designing and manufacturing specialized farm equipment to make our farm run more efficiently.  I like building things: machinery, buildings, and community.  I envision the farm growing more and more food that we produce using very sustainable practices while reducing our reliance on fossil fuels.  I think that a farm is a great place for me to bring up my children.

Brandon McCluskey – 2015 – present

Brandon joined our crew in the spring of 2015 and has been outstanding.

The CSA/Market Team

Without great people to help us sell the vegetables we have worked so hard to produce our farm could not exist.  We have been really lucky to find such dedicated and committed employees to help us at markets and CSA pick-ups.

Don Campbell- 2010 to present

Since 2010 Don has been a huge contributor to our farm, our business and our personal lives.  In 2010 Don volunteered 6 days a week to help us regain our confidence after three difficult seasons when we had more ambition than knowledge.  In 2013 Don volunteered again to compact the base of our newest vegetable storage facility, working hundreds of hours.  In 2014 Don returned to the farm as an employee, setting the standard for dedication and productiveness during the 2014 fall harvest.  Don’s commitment to progress is astounding and unlike anybody I have ever met before.  Don has been a great friend and motivator and continues to help us accomplish more than we ever expected.

Amanda Balestreri – 2013 – 2016

Amanda Balestreri

Amanda Balestreri

Amanda worked with us for the 2013 and 2014 growing seasons.  She consistently was our fastest and most accurate harvester and we have seen few people who could work at her all day pace for even a few minutes.  Amanda’s sincerity, dedication and commitment to us and our cause were second to none.  Amanda has gone on to pursue art, one of her lifelong passions; we hope to stay in touch and would appreciate any opportunity to work with her again.  Amanda came back for the end of the 2015 season and beginning of the 2016 season and we hope to see her come back again!

Fanny Legacy- 2014 to 2016

Fanny has worked at the Dieppe Market since the fall of 2014 and will hopefully work at Moncton/Dieppe CSA pick-ups.

Emilie McBride- 2014 to 2015

10593210_10101041492753179_8474626220975580669_nEmilie joined the team in August 2014 for the fall harvest and took more of a managerial position at the farm in 2015. She occasionally worked at the markets and CSA pickups. She’s from Guelph, Ontario and comes from a farming background.  Emilie was an awesome employee and helped the farm through some of its toughest times.

Xander Alkhoury

Xander Alkhoury – 2013 -2014

Xander worked with us for during the 2013 growing season, the winter of 2014 and most of the 2014 growing season.  Xander’s high quality standards, exceptionally fast hands, outstanding dexterity combined with his willingness to take on any task regardless of how strange it seemed at the time really made our team a positive place to work.  Xander brought lots of experience to our farm and helped us establish more consistent quality and faster techniques for weeding and harvesting.  He often kept his complaints to himself but always provided insightful observations and suggestions when asked.  Xander has been a pleasure to work with and we would appreciate any opportunity to work with him again.

Dan Aurell- 2012 and 2013

Dan was our first full time employee.  He worked with us for the 2012 and 2013 growing seasons, putting his education on hold to finish both seasons completely.  Dan’s ability to see the big picture, understand how things fit together and see what work needed to be done next made him invaluable during our craziest seasons ever.  He worked days, evenings and sometimes nights to enable us to grow vegetables while constructing our two vegetable facilities and underground irrigation system.  He dug trenches, drove tractors, weeded vegetables, harvested vegetables and sold vegetables on our behalf while we were too busy to do this work.  Regardless of the task at hand, how tired he was or how many other things Dan had already done he always wore his smile proudly.  Dan’s positive attitude and quest to improve were greatly appreciated and are missed!

Charles Ryan and Jessy Wysmyk- 2010 and 2011

Charles and Jessy worked with us for two seasons and really helped us get over the hump of being too big with too little help.  They currently run their own farm nearby!!!  Check them out here.charles and jessy organic farm dscf00361small
